Former Ryder Cup great Christy O Connor claims there is nothing
to beat the great natural links and the rich and exciting
parklands which the West of Ireland has to offer. The climate
and natural beauty of the countryside add to the magic of
the place, and Clonbur is ideally situated as a base for the
avid golfers.
The Galway Bay and Country Club which Christy O'Connor Jnr
himself designed , is only a half an hour away from Clonbur.
This 18 hole course highlights and preserves the ancient historic
features of the Renville peninsula. The spectacular setting
on Galway Bay is distractingly beautiful and cleverly designed
mix of holes present a real golfing challenge which demands
total concentration.
Ballyconnelly Golf Course in Clifden is also nearby. Situated
on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in a spectacular setting
with the Twelve Pins Mountains in the background, this championship
course is a challenge as good as any golfer would wish for.
Established in 1973 the course has a popular reputation with
big hitters, who relish the long meandering fairways.
Ballinrobe Golf Course is situated less than 10 miles away
from Clonbur and is one of the best known golf courses in
Ireland. This scenic parkland golf course will offer a challenge
to any golfer with its mature trees, man-made lakes, lush
fairways and traditional stone walls.
30 minutes away, Westport Golf Club is rated as one of the
top golf courses in Ireland. It is recognised as a prestigious
venue and has hosted both the Ladies Home Internationals in
1989 and the Irish Amateur Close Championship on three occasions,
most recently in 1997 and the 2002 Smurfit Irish P.G.A championship.
With Westport Golf Club, a leading parkland Championship course
and Enniscrone a similar quality links course, Castlebar with
its 18 new USGA standard greens, Mulranny a gem of a 9 hole
links on the Atlantic Coast, the list just goes on and on.
